Meet the Candidates!
Hello Silver City Food Co-op members! My name is Arielle. The co-op is more than just a grocery store to me. It is community, connection, and a better future for generations to come. I am passionate about organic foods, sustainability, and the health of our community, especially for families and children. I personally choose to shop primarily at the co-op because I believe it is the most ethical and trustworthy place to shop. It doesn’t hurt that the fruits and veggies are the freshest and best tasting!
In my past careers as a professional makeup artist, creative director, manager, buyer and marketing specialist, I have experience in collaborating with groups, communicating effectively and coming up with creative solutions to fit the evolving needs of a client or brand. I have laughed in the co-op, I have cried in the co-op, and have felt the magnitude of its presence in our community. It would be an honor to give back to our beloved co-op by becoming a member of the board. A little more about me: Our family moved here in 2022 from Jersey City, New Jersey in search of small town sweetness and wide open wilderness spaces. Boy, have we found it in droves! Our lifestyle shift has allowed me the freedom and the blessing of being a stay at home mother to 2 beautiful children; Osiris (5 years) and Zuzanna (Zuzu) (10 months), while also pursuing my degree at WNMU. The co-op had a significant influence on our family’s decision to move here, and we couldn’t be happier here in Silver City!
Arielle Dugan
Originally from Albuquerque, I returned to New Mexico in 2024, having been away for more than two decades. In Silver City, I found a warm and welcoming community unlike anything I’d experienced before. In fact, in all the places I’ve lived, I’ve never experienced a more supportive community than I have here. The co-op plays a big role in our community on both the consumer and producer ends, and I hope to join the Board to serve that community. I am the geology professor at WNMU, specializing in environmental science and geology. My research focuses on water quality and biodiversity. I hope to strengthen ties between the co-op and the University.
I see many opportunities for both organizations to work together and engage with students. Furthermore, I see opportunities to expand the co-op’s base demographic by making it a more welcoming space for our diverse population. This goes beyond stocking different products; it must also actively make newcomers feel welcome and a part of the co-op community.
While I’ve not served on a Board before, I have served on many academic and administrative committees for non-profits and higher education and am currently the chair of the Graduate Council at WNMU. I have over a decade experience in administrative support and program coordinator roles in non-profit organizations, and have 5 years experience in retail and food service industries. I have 17 years of teaching and research experience. I hope to use my knowledge, experience and skills to help take the co-op into the future.
Dr. Marie Weide
One of the things I love most about living in Silver City, is grocery shopping at our food co-op. As a busy onsite manager of a local, 55 and older community, as well as radio talk show host, having the easy convenience and wide selection of plant based foods in the beautiful new space, is especially appreciated by me. Moreover, there isn’t a time when I shop at the store that I don’t run into friends and acquaintances, which speaks to how much it has become a gathering place within the community.
My background as a hospital health coach could also be useful on the board, as I have worked collaboratively with others on nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices. It would be an honor to be of service to the board.

This year’s board election will be conducted online for member/owners of the Silver City Food Co-op. Please note only CURRENT MEMBER/OWNERS are eligible to vote, NOT household members. If you are a member/owner of the SCFC and have an email address listed on file with us, we will distribute your ballot to you electronically. If you are a member/owner and do not have an email address listed on file with us, you will be receiving your ballot via USPS at the start of the election. Please let us know if either your mailing address and/or email address has changed within the last year so that we are sure to get you your ballot. Voting will begin at 9:00a.m. October 5th, 2026 and end at 7:00 p.m. October 19th, 2026.
Ballots received after October 19th will not be counted. Mail-in paper ballots can be dropped off in the ballot box at the Co-op, or mailed to:
